Sen. Manchin Shows His True Colors in Latest Campaign Ad

Senator Joe Manchin (R-WV) has been a real ace in the hole for Republicans. From blocking the Build Back Better (BBB) to his latest appearance in a political ad, the Senator has been showing Americans that you don’t need to ride the party line, even as a Democrat. While this certainly angers his fellow Democrats, the American people appreciate a man who is willing to think of the best interests of the people who elected him over the wants of other elected officials.

In his latest act of supporting his people over his party, Sen. Manchin appeared in a political ad targeting the voters of West Virginia. This is completely normal for a sitting Senator, and usually very highly encouraged. However, it was his choice of candidate to back that raised eyebrows. With heavy redistricting in West Virginia, the need for big-name support is huge, so Congressman David McKinley (R-WV) is having Sen. Manchin appear in his latest ad.

Going up against Congressman Alex Mooney (R-WV) after redistricting put them both at odds for the same seat, the ad draws on the roles each played in helping to block President Biden’s cornerstone BBB bill. With McKinley strongly supporting the bill, the message sent by the duo is clear; McKinley is a Republican in name only. He isn’t something true to the conservative views, nor is he someone who has the best interests of West Virginians at heart. His only true interest is in gaining favor with those who have more power.

Sen. Manchin’s lines in this ad are nothing less than political gold. “I’ve always said if I can’t go home and explain it, I can’t vote for it. And that’s why I opposed Build Back Better…David McKinley has always opposed reckless spending because it doesn’t make sense for West Virginia. Alex Mooney had proven he’s all about Alex Mooney, but West Virginians know that David McKinley is all about us.” Straightforward, simple, and to the point. These lines are exactly what we should be getting from our politicians, and they are making it known that this is the kind of campaign and service WV voters should expect.

In the wake of these ads, there has been an outpouring of opinions about the direction the Democratic party is heading in. Naturally very few have been dripping with confidence in the party or its people. Between their failure of a President, infighting over how progressive is too progressive, and generally ignorant statements, the party has become a fast-sinking ship, and many want off at this point, yet some still cling on to hope.

Democratic strategist Max Burns gave the top opinion on the situation. “At the end of the day, if Joe Manchin can cut ads for Republicans and spit in Joe Biden’s face without consequence, and Democrats will *still* handle Manchin with kid gloves, that’s a deeper problem within the party.” It’s not about handling him with kid gloves. It really is about them having so many deep problems. They could not see the truth if it bit them on the face at this point.

The more they push to take politics to the hard left, the more absurd they look to the average American, as well as in many other corners of the globe. The infighting and the push for equality for any and every special interest group are starting to get old, and people are tired of it. The cancel culture is still alive, but the average American is getting sick of it. They want to go back to the days of just letting careers die. Hopefully with this latest wave of bipartisan support for the people of West Virginia perhaps we are turning the corner. Thankfully Sen. Joe Manchin is brave enough to back the right person and not just a party candidate.
