Racism is defined by Merriam-Webster Dictionary as “a belief that race is a fundamental determinant of human traits and capacities and that racial differences produce an inherent superiority of a particular race.”
Notice that the definition does not say anything about it being limited to one particular race. Yet, the liberals in the U.S. would have you believe that racism can only apply to people of color.
Author James Patterson is an older white male. And although he’s a bestselling author, he’s also experienced “another form of racism.” When he spoke with the Times, a British paper, recently, he discussed how getting a job can be hard when you’re a white man, particularly when acquiring writing jobs.
Patterson received a significant amount of backlash for this. As reported by The Blaze, critics said that “Patterson is not connected to reality because the majority of authors and employees at publishing houses are white.”
How is it that Black people in all walks of life can claim racism but white people cannot? There is a dangerous double standard. It was only a matter of time before some white person pointed out that the double standard exists. It just happened to be James Patterson. He took the heat for everyone else who has been thinking the same thing.
Author Leah Johnson made the comment that “James Patterson has a net worth of over 700 million dollars meanwhile BIPOC in publishing are still struggling to pay their rent and working for well under a living wage but please tell me again how racism is hurting older white men in the industry.”
James Patterson did not say that he, personally, has struggled due to racism. However, he did say that he doesn’t meet a lot of older white male writers. It’s his opinion. Isn’t everyone allowed to still have one of those?
We don’t shove it into every BIPOC’s face that there are successful POCs out there. We don’t point to Oprah and Obama to say that racism can’t possibly exist if those people were able to achieve success.
In today’s society, liberals run the cancel culture. With all of the attacks that Patterson faced, he did what anyone would do. He apologized.
He had no choice. The liberals were furious at his words. It didn’t matter whether they were true or not. Simply breathing them into existence goes against the progressive agenda that they have.
Patterson showed up on Twitter a few days after making the comments to say that he apologizes for saying that white male writers have trouble working as a result of racism. “I absolutely do not believe that racism is practiced against white writers. Please know that I strongly support a diversity of voices being heard – in literature, in Hollywood, everywhere.”
As one person was quick to back him up, though, he’s allowed to have his opinion, even if it is an unpopular one. Just because a comment fires a few thousand people up on Twitter doesn’t mean it’s how the whole world thinks.
White people are constantly passed up on promotions to hire people of color so that the company looks to be diverse. It’s the truth of the matter. And many white writers do find that they can’t get book deals in today’s market because publishers want to change the statistics.
But…apparently, we can’t talk about any of that.
