We’ve had this conversation before. There is no such category as an “assault weapon.” It’s a term that the left has used in order to identify guns that could be used to take lives. By that definition, however, literally any gun could fall into that category.
The unthinkable recently happened – someone entered a gay nightclub in Colorado Springs with a gun and shot people.
As soon as the story broke, two things happened. First, police officers identified that they did NOT know the cause. Second, the left immediately began calling for a ban on “assault weapons.” And that included Joe Biden.
The suspect used a “long rifle” in the attack. That could be any number of guns – and it’s quite a common one that is used for hunting. Does that mean that the government is going to ban hunting?
We cannot and should not ban everything that takes a life. Rather than constantly banning weapons, we have to look at WHY people are committing the crimes. Think about it – it’s illegal to shoot up a nightclub, too. Simply making something illegal doesn’t stop bad things from happening.
The left has become so focused on helping criminals stay out of jail that they’ve forgotten that jail serves as an excellent deterrent. Just look at the statistics. Where there are fewer people going to jail, there are higher crime rates.
The fearmongering coming from Biden is absolutely insane: “While no motive in this attack is yet clear, we know that the LGBTQI+ community has been subjected to horrific hate violence in recent years. Gun violence continues to have a devastating and particular impact on LGBTQI+ communities across our nation and threats of violence are increasing.”
We don’t know the motive, yet Biden is guessing at one.
And the reality is that gun violence can affect anyone at any given time. It is not more devastating to the LGBTQI+ communities.
Just look at where other shootings have taken place. It is something that can happen at any time because the left continues to allow it to happen.
Let’s not forget that there are other ways that people can be killed.
Car accidents – and we’re not banning cars.
Stabbings – and we’re not banning knives.
Arson – and we’re not banning gasoline or lighters.
The left has been trying to come for our Second Amendment rights for a while now – and rather than focusing on figuring out why the shooting happened and how the person obtained the gun that they used, the liberals would rather ban guns.
The debate really becomes this: what is an assault weapon? Because if you listen to the Biden administration, it’s literally anything that can be used to kill someone. At one point, they’ve even used incidents involving handguns to ban assault weapons.
Right now, our Second Amendment rights are still intact. Biden knows that he needs Congress to make changes. He can’t simply pick up his pen and make this constitutional right go away with an executive order.
The House just went to the GOP, so it’s unlikely that Biden will get his way.
In the meantime, it might be important for the press to push Biden and the rest of the liberals a bit further. Go ahead – give us a list of every gun that falls into the category of “assault weapon” because we really need to know.
