America’s most precious civil liberties have been violated more fully and more rapidly under Joe Biden than the British ever hoped to achieve prior to 1776. Nothing illustrates this more than the vile treatment of the January 6 political prisoners. Dozens of Trump supporters are still rotting in the disgusting DC jail more than two years after they peacefully walked into the US Capitol to protest the stolen 2020 election. Now that Republicans are in control of the House for the first time since 2018, a delegation of congressmen and congresswomen are planning to visit the prisoners.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) is one of the only Members of Congress who has tirelessly worked to try to free these Trump supporters. They are held in solitary confinement for up to 23 hours per day in unimaginably horrific conditions. Their right to a speedy trial in front of a jury of their peers has been fully ignored by Attorney General Merrick Garland, the Department of Justice, the Biden White House, and the court system.
Greene will be joined on the jailhouse visit by House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer (R-KY). Other members will likely join them, although the details of the visit are still being ironed out.
“We’re going to be addressing the human rights abuse, such as the fact that they’ve been held in solitary confinement up to 23 hours a day, denied the ability to see their families,” says Rep. Greene.
The last time she led a delegation of congressional members to visit the prisoners was back in 2021. It was a circus. The DC jail guards led them around in circles, took them outside the building, and locked the door behind them before they could actually see the prisoners. That actually happened.
When they finally did get in to visit the prisoners, it was horrifying. Here’s how Rep. Greene described that first visit:
“Last night I finally got into the deplorable jail, the D.C. jail where these people are being held for months on end in conditions like I’ve never seen in my life. It’s beyond anything I’ve ever seen and every American in this country should be outraged at what’s happening. I don’t care how you vote.”
She’s right. The January 6 political prisoners are being held without trial for years on end, in conditions far worse than Al Qaeda terrorists who killed American troops were treated in Guantanamo Bay. Civil rights attorneys from across the country lined up to offer free legal services to those terrorists. But that’s not happening for the January 6ers.
These prisoners, in the worst-case scenario, are guilty of misdemeanor trespassing and briefly interrupting a meeting of the United States Senate. Ask yourself whether that’s worth sitting in prison for more than two years without a trial.
Now that Tucker Carlson has released some of the video that House Speaker Kevin McCarthy gave him access to from the Capitol, we know definitively that January 6 was not an insurrection, and far less violent than many of the BLM riots from 2020. Far less!
Jacob Chansley, the so-called QAnon Shaman, was basically railroaded and framed by the government because federal prosecutors withheld exculpatory video from Chansley’s defense attorneys. Chansley is serving four years in prison for crimes he definitely did not commit. He should be let out of prison immediately.
And all of the January 6ers should be let out of the disgusting DC jail. They’ve been imprisoned longer than any eventual misdemeanor sentence for their alleged “crimes” would have been. They are routinely beaten, abused, and sexually assaulted by the guards. We know this from confirmed reports inside the jail. Let’s hope this next congressional visit finally bears fruit and gets these political prisoners released from Joe Biden’s gulag.
