Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the former FDA commissioner and board member of COVID vaccine manufacturer Pfizer, is the focus of the latest Twitter Files release.
Elon Musk recently gave access to his Twitter Files to Alex Berenson. He is a prominent COVID opponent who has been a lightning rod for the pandemic. Some love him, while others have been highly critical of his commentary on COVID. Berenson is now publishing his new findings in his “Unreported Truths” Substack newsletter.
Berenson revealed an email Gottlieb wrote in August of 2021 that was sent to Twitter’s senior public policy manager, Todd O’Boyle. It was flagging a tweet that had been sent by former Trump administration official Dr. Brett Giroir.
He wrote in that flagged tweet: “It’s now clear #COVID19 natural immunity is superior to #vaccine immunity, by ALOT. There’s no scientific justification for #vax proof if a person had prior infection.”
Gottlieb told O’Boyle that this is the kind of tweet that is “corrosive,” and he said that Giroir draws “sweeping” conclusions off of a single retrospective done in Israel that had not been peer-reviewed. And he said that the tweet would end up going viral and become a focus in the news coverage.
Apparently, O’Boyle immediately forwarded Gottlieb’s email to Twitter’s “Strategist Response” team and told them to see the report from the former FDA commissioner.
They then put a “misleading” label on the tweet and blocked any ability to like or share it. They told Twitter users, “Learn why health officials recommend a vaccine for most people.”
Gottlieb, a CNBC contributor, flagged another tweet in September of 2021 from Justin Hart, a prominent COVID policy critic. His email said, “Sticks and stones may break my bones but a viral pathogen with a child mortality rate of ~0% has cost our children nearly three years of schooling.”
Berenson wrote that he could not find the reason that Gottlieb objected to this tweet, but he did uncover that a Pfizer vaccine for children 5 to 11 was about to be released and the company would lose a boatload of money if parents believed it was not a threat to their kids.
Berenson also wrote about how Gottlieb had targeted him just days before he was permanently suspended from Twitter. He was later reinstated to Twitter in July of 2022 after a legal battle with the social media giant.
Gottlieb went after Berenson because he was critical of Dr. Anthony Fauci. He wrote to Twitter flagging a tweet from Berenson and saying that this was the reason Fauci needed a security detail.
Gottlieb has reacted to the latest revelation from the Twitter files. He said the disclosed emails don’t tell the whole story.
“In the past, I’ve raised concerns with Twitter related to the safety of me and others, and threats being made on the platform. This included direct as well as specific threats. Sometimes it included statements that I believed were purposely false and inflammatory,” Gottlieb wrote on Monday.
He went further saying that the “selective disclosure” of his private communications with Twitter continues to create a threatening environment and instigates more “menacing dialogue” that may have “serious consequences.”
This recent disclosure of files from Twitter is the 13th installment. These began going viral last month and have been shared by major independent journalists including Matt Taibbi, Bari Weiss, Michael Shallenberger, Lee Fang, and David Zweig.
The previous files which were released covered topics like the suppression of Hunter Biden’s laptop story during the 2020 presidential election, the pressure the company faced to permanently ban former President Donald Trump, efforts by the White House and other government officials to suppress content, and the shadow-banning of conservatives.
