Back on January 18th, the major pro-sports leagues of the US sent a letter to Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY), Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA), Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), and Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY). Sent on behalf of the MLB, MLS, NASCAR, NBA, NFL, NHL, and the NCAA, the letter was written to express a “threat” they perceive on their events.
“We write to express our strong support for reauthorization of the Undetectable Firearms Act (UFA), which is set to expire on February 2, 2024. The UFA has helped keep Americans safe in public spaces that utilize metal detection to prevent the admittance of firearms, including at the thousands of events that our organizations host each year. The safety of the millions of fans, participants, and other personnel who attend our events is our top priority.”
They continued, “Our organizations work in close coordination with federal, state, and local law enforcement and rely on advanced security procedures, including metal detector screening, to ensure the safety of our events. Allowing the UFA to sunset would hinder our ability to prevent firearms from entering stadiums and arenas and reduce the fan safety measures in place at our events.”
Notably absent were signatures from any of the athletes, organizational leadership, or anyone directly involved with the game. Rather it was signed off on by Vice Presidents and over-glorified rent-a-cops from these organizations. Then again, most of these athletes and team owners enjoy firearms. From hunting to skeet shooting to simply enjoying their rights to self-defense, most athletes in the US are pro-Second Amendment.
The fact of the matter is that criminals aren’t using the plastic 3D-printed guns that are being produced for private use. The requirements for metal in the weapon are a joke, anyway, since a single 22LR bullet can be picked up by a basic security wand. Larger rounds or multiple rounds are even easier to spot. At this time, the real danger is the continued persecution of law-abiding gun owners due to the human garbage who commit horrific crimes that liberal DAs refuse to properly prosecute.
