A big question that many people are not ready to think about yet is the 2028 presidential election. It’s worth contemplating, though. There doesn’t appear to be a clear choice to pick up the MAGA torch from Donald Trump and run with it. The Democrat Party’s bench isn’t exactly very deep, either. One person thinking about a presidential run in 2028 is Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey. Not only is McConaughey thinking about it, but he’s also hired 2028 campaign staffers, and his wife has told Radar Online that she’s worried about what a presidential campaign might do to their marriage.

Some people are laughing at the idea of McConaughey ever becoming president, but then again, the same thing happened with Donald Trump. Most of the smart people on TV thought Trump would never stand a chance of being elected, and he turned out to be one of the greatest presidents in American history after his crushing 2016 defeat of Hillary Clinton.

McConaughey had previously hinted that he might run for governor of his native state of Texas in 2022. Obviously, he stayed out of the race, and Gregg Abbott remains the governor of the Lone Star State. McConaughey is not hinting when it comes to running for president in 2028, though. The 53-year-old Oscar winner has already hired a team of campaign staffers to handle finance and strategy for his run. The real telling signal will be if McConaughey forms a political action committee to start raising money sometime in the next year.

McConaughey says he’s been inspired by Donald Trump, and he’s definitely running in 2028, saying in a speech last year that it “is inevitable,” adding, “I didn’t choose it. It chose me.”

McConaughey’s wife, 41-year-old model Camila Alves, is not on board with her husband’s plans to run for the nation’s highest office.

“Camila got Matthew to pull away from acting so he could be a more present father,” says one unnamed source. McConaughey hasn’t starred in a live-action movie since 2019’s “The Gentlemen,” so he could devote more time to raising the couple’s three children, Levi, 14, Vida, 13, and Livingston, 10. He’s done some voice acting on a couple of cartoons since then, but that’s it.

“She fears Matthew’s bid for the presidency will consume him and has the potential to tear their family apart,” said the unnamed source.

McConaughey has always been deliberately vague as to his personal politics. No one has ever confirmed whether he’s a registered Republican or Democrat voter. As far as we can tell, he’s a centrist Democrat who is not on board with the Democrat Party’s current woke communist demagoguery. He seems to be politically closer to JFK than to Barack Obama.

He’s certainly not a MAGA torchbearer. McConaughey spoke about the need for “sensible gun control” after the Uvalde, TX, school shooting. He was also in favor of mask mandates during the pandemic.

On the flip side, McConaughey has spoken in the past about how he has been persecuted in Hollywood for his Christian faith.

He once stated in a podcast, “I have had moments where I was on stage receiving an award in front of my peers in Hollywood, and there were people in the crowd that I have prayed with before dinners many times, and when I thanked God, I saw some of those people go to clap, but then notice that, ‘bad thing on my resume’ and then sit back on their hands.”

That’s likely to play well with moderate Christian Republican voters. What do you think? Does an actor like Matthew McConaughey stand a chance at running for president in 2028? Before you answer, here’s a trip down memory lane to remind everyone what the elites all said about Donald Trump running for president:
