The National Border Patrol Council (NBPC), which reps around 16,000 Border Patrol agents nationwide, has officially thrown its weight behind Donald Trump for president once again. Their latest endorsement comes with a side of shade aimed directly at Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.
On Monday, the union released a statement saying, “On behalf of the 16,000 men and women we represent, we proudly endorse Donald J. Trump for President of the United States.” The announcement came after a rally in Prescott, Arizona, where Trump was surrounded by plenty of Border Patrol leadership.
Paul Perez, the new NBPC president, went full apocalypse mode during the rally, claiming, “If we allow border czar Harris to win this election, every city, every community in this great country is going to go to hell.” Perez said that the countless unvetted individuals allowed into the country by her administration are committing serious crimes, including murder, rape, robbery, and burglary, and they will keep putting our nation in danger.
The union further doubled down, saying border experts need Trump back so the border can be secured “without compromise,” and taking a swipe at the Democrats and Harris he added, “Only the drug cartels and Democrats want an open border.”
For the last few years, NBPC leaders have been Team Trump at border events across Texas and Arizona. After Trump declared his re-election run, former NBPC president Brandon Judd was quick to endorse him once more, appearing alongside him at campaign stops.
The union has been pretty vocal about its disdain for Biden and Harris, constantly pointing fingers at them for creating the current border crisis. They’ve also fact-checked claims made by both, especially Biden’s assertion during a past debate that the union had endorsed him. Spoiler alert: they never did, and they were quick to clarify that with a big fat “Nope” on X (formerly known as Twitter).
During a September debate, Harris talked about the importance of “sovereignty and territorial integrity,” which the union found pretty hilarious, accusing her and Biden of erasing any semblance of American sovereignty with their open border policies. The union lambasted Harris, saying, “She apparently only cares about other countries’ sovereignty b/c when it comes to America, she and President Biden opened up the border, erasing any semblance of sovereignty.”
When Harris said Border Patrol agents needed more resources, the union responded by pointing out that they’ve caught over 8 million illegal immigrants in the last four years, and now, just 38 days before the election, she realizes they need more help.
Fast forward to Trump’s latest rally, where he vowed to secure Congress’ support for funding to hire 10,000 more Border Patrol agents, give current agents a 10% pay raise, and offer a $10,000 signing bonus if he gets elected. Because, as Trump put it, Border Patrol has been “treated badly” and prevented from doing their jobs.
Harris, meanwhile, has been boasting about a Senate border bill that supposedly funds the hiring of 1,500 agents. But Trump and the NBPC aren’t buying it, saying the bill does the opposite—essentially opening the floodgates for illegal immigrants and codifying policies that Republicans argue only worsen the border crisis.
Unsurprisingly, Senate Democrats and Independents weren’t thrilled with the bill either, and it never even made it to a vote. Many Democrats have been trying to distance themselves from the Biden-Harris border disaster as the ripple effects of crime and costs pile up in local communities.
Oh, and one more thing: As a senator, Harris wanted to cut funding for federal border agencies like ICE, which is responsible for getting rid of the most dangerous criminals. Now, she wants to take credit for border security? Really? Does anyone believe this?
