Looks Like Your Taxes Will be Buying Dream Homes for Illegals

Former Democrat House Speaker Nancy Pelosi just can’t stop cheering for a bill that would hand over taxpayer-funded loans to illegal immigrants looking to buy homes in—you guessed it—California. Because apparently, if you’re not from here, Pelosi’s got you covered.

Pelosi enthusiastically claimed in an interview with Bill Maher that the American dream of homeownership should be accessible to all. And by “everyone,” she means anyone with a pulse, documented or not.

The bill in question, Assembly Bill 1840, was passed last week by California lawmakers who must think that the state’s housing crisis will magically solve itself by throwing more money at people who aren’t even supposed to be here. The California Housing Finance Authority is now being strong-armed into considering applications from illegal immigrants for the “Dream for All Program.” This lovely little fund dishes out loan assistance to first-time homebuyers, offering up to 20 percent of a property’s value with a cap of $150,000. Oh, and when they sell, they just have to pay back the loan plus up to 20 percent of any property appreciation. In case you’re wondering about the up 20 percent – it’s based on their income.

When Maher pointed out that government assistance for undocumented immigrants to buy houses is “kind of a different place” for the Democratic Party, Pelosi hit back with a straight face: “Immigration had always been a bipartisan issue.”

Sure, Nancy, because what screams “bipartisan” more than making sure people who aren’t citizens can snag homes that American families can’t afford?

Maher wasn’t letting her off easy, reminding her that “free houses” had historically not been part of the deal. Pelosi, with her signature delusion, replied, “Well, it’s not free housing; it’s just making the American dream available to more people.”

Meanwhile, Governor Gavin Newsom is doing what he does best: keeping everyone guessing. He hasn’t made it clear whether he’ll sign or veto this latest assault on common sense, but why stop now? Oregon is already leading the way with a program that hands out $30,000 to non-residents for down payments, so maybe Newsom just wants to see if California can outdo that absurdity.

When Maher pressed Pelosi on whether spending tax dollars on homes for “undocumented” folks was a great idea, she responded with another gem: “What I would like to do is move them to documented.” Ah, yes, the classic Pelosi strategy—just wave a wand and make it all legal.

Pelosi’s opposition to the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility (SAVE) Act makes it crystal clear where she stands. She’s all in on the idea of turning illegal immigrants into voters, too. Back in July, she and her Democratic pals nearly unanimously rejected a bill designed to keep illegal immigrants from voting in American elections. The legislation, spearheaded by Rep. Chip Roy, R-Texas, is now collecting dust in the Senate.

Meanwhile, California remains a national embarrassment in the housing department. As Americans and immigrants alike struggle to find affordable places to live, the Golden State is sitting pretty among the worst in the country for housing. In 2022, Zillow reported that the U.S. was short over 4.5 million housing units, with California cities like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and San Diego leading the pack in housing deficits.

And what’s the brilliant plan from our lawmakers in D.C.? Opening up federal land for more houses. While Republicans propose selling federal property to state and local governments to get the ball rolling on home construction, Democrats are demanding it be limited to pre-existing development zones. Because why fix the problem when you can just keep making it worse?
